The other day I was our with the ECC mountain bike club and their fearless leader, Mike Daigle, told me I was quite the prolific writer. My first thought was, “I have been posting one or two rides a week. I have to think most bloggers produce close to that volume.” Then I suddenly began to realize what he was talking about (slow thinker that I am)! The old stories!
Mike was most likely reading all the old stories Jeremiah (my son-in-law) was transferring from the old site, thinking they were all new! He has been transferring one or two of the old stories a day! That would be a huge effort for any writer!
As you might already know, I began this blog site a few months ago. There were several reasons why I am leaving my old website. I would like to share them with you now.
Changed My Focus
I was trying to do too much. I could not keep up with the story writing, product reviews, advertising, trail rankings, product giveaways, and detailed maps for all states, cities, and individual rides. I decided I just wanted to spend most of my time riding my bike and telling about it (and less time looking at my computer).
WordPress is Better
Spam- The old site was hosted by a company called SBI. I began having a lot of problems with SPAM entering my comments section on SBI. People were placing links into the comment sections that had nothing to do with my site.
Easier to Use– To place a post on SBI required a whole bunch of page jumping. On WordPress I can do all my editing and posting in the same place. Others can help me since WordPress does not require a person to know programming.
Great Blog Setup– WordPress provides a wonderful setup for a person writing a blog. Writing posts on SBI sometimes took weeks or even months. Now I can post a blog within one or two days of a ride (I struggled with this in Jamaica due to the poor WIFI connections … but I did it! I used my phone and burned up a lot of data!)
So, why all the old stories? Just because a story was written a few years ago does not mean it now longer is viable. Some of my favorite short stories involve a character named Sherlock Holmes. Those stories were written from 1887 to 1927!
When transferring the old stories we have made sure we used the WordPress postdating option. This means all the old stories will that appear on this site will be filed by the date they were originally written, not by the date they were transferred. So, if you have any doubts as to how old a story is, just look closely at the date under the title.
Thanks for subscribing to my site and be sure to place any comments in the place provided below.
