How many and which parts on my bike should I actually give a damn about?
Give A Damn!!!
You sir have left the door wide open for a good rant. Lets see… well, when it comes to giving a damn about your parts we must first answer what kind of bike are we riding. But we’ll get back to that in a second.
I would give a damn about the frame… without it you don’t even need any damn parts at all.
I would give a damn about a fork and handlebars purely for steering purposes.
I would give a damn about wheels if you’d like to go anywhere.
I would give a damn about my drive train… I really do like to move.
Now I know that I sound sarcastic but humor me I really like this question.
So if you ride a mountain bike up hills and never down I wouldn’t give a damn about suspension.
If you ride a Fixie I wouldn’t give a damn about shifters and derailleurs.
If you ride a bmx bike I wouldn’t give a damn about brakes or even a seat for that matter… you can’t sit down anyway.
Every part of your bicycle has a damn job and whether you need them or not really depends on your riding style.
Now for the serious answer.
When it comes to what parts to give a damn about I would have to say the parts that wear out.
-Drive train: chain, cassette, and chain rings.
-Brake pads or shoes
Without these parts in good health or working order your ride could become a real pain or a damn long walk.
Thanks for allowing me this soapbox rant.
