Writing a page on San Diego Mountain Biking is easy for me. I live in Lakeside, about 20 miles due east of San Diego. The town of Lakeside is located in what is often called the Foothills and sits centrally located as far as San Diego Mountain Bike Trails are concerned. A 30-minute drive east of Lakeside puts me in our local Mountains, while a twenty minute drive will get me to most of the North County, South County, and City Coastal trails.
Our weather permits us to mountain bike our trails year round. A wide variety of trails and riding areas throughout the county make San Diego’s Mountain Biking special.
Weather also makes San Diego’s Mountain Biking unique. I have ridden trails on Christmas Eve Day, New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, and pretty much every other day of the year except Easter Sunday, Christmas Day, and Mother’s Day (all of which would be frowned upon around this household).
San Diego’s Mountain Biking is only limited by our work schedule, our wives (husbands/girlfriends/boyfriends), and the amount of sleep we require.
For instance, August 26th (Cindy’s and my anniversary) has not been a big mountain biking day for me … and the time I had a flat (and no spare tube) and Cindy came and got me in the middle of cooking Thanksgiving Dinner … well, I don’t want to talk about that. Now let’s talk about the trails I know the best.

As stated on our home page… rides posted on Mountain Bike Diaries will provide information at one of 2 different levels:
- Garmin or Strava Review(Garmin or Strava Reviews… provides all the stats for rides, such as length of the ride, elevation gained, detailed map, time of ride, temperature of ride, and many more).
- Full Page Review (includes Garmin or Strava Review plus photos, video, custom maps, slideshows, and a detailed description of the ride).
As a bonus we are offering readers a chance to look at a gallery of Photos for many of the rides.
